At Dave Lane's Hi-Tech Mechanical, we offer the power of ultraviolet light to make the air in your home cleaner and healthier.

HVAC UV lighting reacts with and destroys millions of airborne bacteria, viruses, allergens, and even mold, circulating through your HVAC system and eventually your home.

Why You Need HVAC UV Lighting

UV lights for HVAC systems are designed to kill bacteria, mold, and germs before they have a chance to spread throughout your home.

These germs, mold growths, and bacteria can cause serious harm to the health of you and your family – especially in those who suffer from weak immune systems, severe allergies, asthma, and other respiratory vulnerabilities.

Common indoor allergens include:

  • Dust
  • Pollen
  • Mold Spores
  • Dust mites
  • House plants
  • Cockroaches
  • Fabrics
  • Pet dander & other animal allergens which may range from mild to severe

Common Indoor Allergen Symptoms Include:

  • Itchy, stuffy nose
  • Itchy, water, swollen, or even red eyes
  • Scratchy/swollen throat
  • Sneezing
  • Coughing
  • Wheezing
  • Chest tightness

The Importance of UV Lighting for HVAC Systems

Although HVAC UV lights cannot kill anything they are not directly shining on, they are great for destroying mold and other germs that are on or near your HVAC system to prevent the spread and inhalation of an airborne pathogen.

By eliminating bacteria before it spreads, these lights are highly effective at keeping harmful germs out of your conditioning systems airflow.

Without an HVAC UV light, your air conditioning system can develop a strong breeding ground for germs, mold, mildew, and other harmful bacteria (all of which pose a threat to your general health and wellbeing).

HVAC UV Lights FAQs

1What are UV lights used for?

UV lights are used for many purposes. Today, Hi-Tech uses these lights to destroy germs, bacteria, fungi, spores, mold, and viruses. Commercially, we have used the UV lights for HVAC in clean rooms, food processing plants, and hospitals to kill these germs instantly. The systems blanket air passage systems and the flow of air is directed between and over the lamps, ensuring that all air pollutants are effectively killed.

For residential applications, our UV lights for HVAC are effective and affordable. Since the light works cumulatively, the polluted air will be cleaned over time. The technology has therefore made it possible to clean indoor air cost-effectively and continuously.

2How does UV light work?

While UV lights for HVAC are great for killing air pollutants, you need to ensure that you have seal all air ducts, installed these ducts in the conditioned space, and ensured that they are all air-tight by sealing them off with mastic.

The UV lights for HVAC will control bacteria and mold, thereby reducing flues and colds. They also reduce odors and smells, and remove VOCs. More specifically, they are highly effective in humid climates by reducing the clogging in drain lines and conditioning units. They also reduce electricity costs, improve cooling efficiency, and ensure that your unit’s coil is clean.

3Is UV Light harmful?
UV light is sometimes harmful especially when you expose yourself to it for too long. Therefore, you need to ensure you don’t touch or look at the UV light bulb if it is on. Luckily, when you install the system into your HVAC unit, there will be no direct harmful exposure to you or to your family.
4What percentage of UV Light is blocked out by glass?
Normal glass, as that used in windows, is transparent to UV radiation (UV-A light) of about 300 nm. This transparency is relatively high, meaning that all UV-A light will still pass through the glass. However, all light below 300 nm (UV-C and UV-B) will be blocked out by glass.
5Is there any maintenance involved with UV Purifiers?
UV purifiers require very little maintenance. Simply replace the bulb once a year, or once every two years depending on the model.
6How does UV light kill bacteria?
UV lighting technically doesn’t “destroy” bacteria, but rather prevents replication and sterilizes it by destroying the DNA of the bacteria itself.
7How long does it take UV lighting to eliminate the threat of bacteria?
In short, UV lighting can eliminate pathogens within minutes depending on the intensity of the light, and the distance between the light source and bacteria simply because different pathogens require different levels of UVC exposure to deactivate them.
8How hot do UV lights get?
Germicidal UVC bulbs produce about the same amount of heat as fluorescent bulbs.
9Can UV light penetrate surfaces?
No, a UVC light only sterilizes what it’s rays come in direct contact with.
